Liar, liar pants on fire. Well, there was definitely nothing to hide at this cafe. Liar, Liar is just off Glenferrie Road, in Kinkora Road. Although there is no signage outside, it isn’t hard to miss, with hardly a chair to spare. Lucky for us we came for an early lunch, around 11.30am. By about 1pm, when all the hipsters and groovy grannies prefer to have a bite to eat, finding a table to sit at would be more of a challenge.
The tables were of a grand size; very wide, heavy dark wood top and had spiny little legs. They were quite a sight. Although not presenting an Asian inspired menu, the decor was definitely of Japanese taste, with black willow tree wall paper, a lamp which looked like something from Ikebana, and wall lights that had a rusty-metal-circle-and-square-cutout-pattern cover.
The staff were great. They were always around to answer any enquiries and ready to take our order.
We had the natural muesli with yoghurt, bananas, strawberries and cow’s milk, the special of the day – Lamb Ragu with ricotta and polenta bread (gluten free) and a Red rocket smoothie (dairy free).
The smoothie was child-like, reminding me of a candy I had once eaten. The muesli was most enjoyable. And the Lamb Ragu went down a treat, especially the ricotta and polenta bread – great combination, and replacement for the ol’ timeless rice and curry dish.
Liar, Liar is a great little cafe, offering a vast selection of coffee blends, breakfast and lunch choices, drinks – both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, and is a perfect spot to catch up with friends without breaking the bank.
