St Ali coffee and Le Madre bread, I’m there!
These are two of many reasons why Famish’d is my new go to spot for lunch or breakfast in the city. I am rarely so inspired by toast that I go to a gourmet grocery store, because I cant bare to wake up to anything other than the Sourdough Fruit Toast served at Famish’d. If only I could kidnap the barista and set up a little St Ali coffee workshop in my back yard…
Set along Little Collins street, hugged by offices, sits Famish’d an excellent cafe/take away store. Famish’d offers a delicious variety of simple breakfast foods; including toasties, bagels, Le Madre toast and a variety of cold and hot drinks. They also have a fresh selection of salads and roast potatoes that can either be chosen from the pre-made options or you can build your own. All the items on the menu can be made to take away, on the whole an excellent idea for the busy melbournite that wants to eat something nutritious while running to their next appointment. They even offer fresh soup in winter!
The space is small, though there is extra seating upstairs, but cozy. The menu is both in a brochure format (to take back to the office) and written up on the walls. The food is prepared right in front of you, they even butter your toast.
Every member of staff was cheery and gave you a smile when they brought your incredible cup of coffee. They were happy to give people recommendations or advise on what was in certain products, and all seemed truly enthused by working in this environment.
We could not pass up on coffee, for obvious reasons.
We also had the Le Madre Sourdough Vine Fruit Toast ($6). Stuffed full of currants, sultanas and raisins, this bread was filling and rich in the sourdough flavour. I will definitely be on the look out for Le Madre bakery products in the future.
So when you find yourself in the city, without your packed lunch or craving good coffee to face another big day, stop off at Famish’d.
